The entire concentration/extermination camp at Auschwitz was not a single entity. There was this original Auschwitz I that predated the Nazi occupation. Later was constructed the massive Auschwitz II-Birkenau (help upwards of 100,000 prisoners at any time) and many of the factories and companies constructed smaller labor camps nearby collectively known as Auschwitz III.
