Legend has it that these are in fact dragon bones (NOT woolly mammoth, whale, or rhinoceros bones) of the fearsome Smok Wawelski, Krakow's dragon that ate all of the young maidens except the King's daughter, Wanda. Of course Skuba, the poor cobbler's apprentice killed him and married her, but you already know that story. Anyways, no one is allowed to test the bones to be sure they are indeed from a dragon because they are magical. While nearly almost every other city in Poland was completely demolished during WWII, Krakow was largely spared. So, if you happen to have dragon bones protecting your home, don't ever take them down and test them or the Nazi's might destroy your home.
