Jihye had been keenly hoping to see this in Berlin. By a favorite sculptor of hers, Kathe Kollwitz, and housed in the 'Neue Wache' (New Guard House) on a major road in downtown Berlin. It is remarkable, the entire large building contains a single piece. This sculpture is a memorial to the victims of war and tyranny. And while this building has served several purposes over the course of its existence, this one is certainly very meaningful and moving. After filling and stuffing every other place with as many artifacts, exhibits, and pieces as possible, it is starkly moving to enter such a solemn, simple space.
