With as many times as Latvia has liberated herself from myriad conquerors, we can't be sure which event this one commemorated. I'm going to guess and say the 1920 throwing off of the Russian Empire which began a lengthy independence, until the Russians made a deal with Nazi Germany in Sept. 1939 and came back in 1940.
