We took so many twists, turns, and back roads trying to avoid the increasing number of Lao New Year celebrations set up on every street. People gather in front of a shop and set up a giant tub or pool of water, turn on the hoses, get giant water guns, or just grab pots of water and everyone who passes by gets soaked. It doesn't matter if you are in a car, on a motorbike, in a tuk-tuk, just walking by, or on a bicycle like we were. We finally gave up and just went for it. By the time we were nearing central Vientiane, nearly every single building had people grouped out front along the street throwing water at us.

Unable to Avoid the Lao New Year Celebrations
