Jurmala Beach in Latvia

Spent a few hours walking the boardwalk around Jurmala beach with our hosts and Laila's mother.  Ended up sunning at the beach while Laila and her mom took a dip in the chilly waters of the Gulf of Riga.  This beach was MUCH busier than the one we saw in Parnu, Estonia.  Robert, our host, told us this was a very popular beach with the wealthy Russian summer vacation set.  Sure enough, after enough barrel-chested, sculpted bear-like men and scores of leopard-print, botox-needle-mark-riddled, unnaturally bronzed leather skin women traipsed past on the wet sand in 8 inch heels we knew for damn sure these weren't local Latvians.  Basically the Russians had taken over parts of this beach and it was hard for us to tell the difference between here and a semi-nude downtown Moscow.  I thought we had escaped Russia...guess we have to keep heading west.
