Here we are gorging ourselves on Robert's (our Latvian host) first solo sushi meal. It is Robert, his lovely girlfriend Laila, and Laila's mother in the photograph. Jihye gave him a quick crash course in sushi making the other night, and tonight he said he'd go for it solo. A few pointers from Jihye and he was off on his own. In no time at all he had put together plate after plate of various sushi rolls, along with some ginger and soy sauce and wasabi. WOW! We feasted together and watched the quadrennial Latvian Dance Festival, the precursor to tomorrow night's even larger singing festival. Unfortunately my camera battery died or you could have seen the grand finale, a dance with thousands of performers, perhaps only rivaled by North Korea's 'Arirang' or even the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics opening ceremony. Seriously, it is on that scale.
The only thing better than the dancing tonight was again Robert's cooking and hosting skills. I truly envy the man his natural grace, culinary skills, cocktail-making talents, endless kindness, and constant composure. He is a class act, and someone who I will not soon forget. Thank you endlessly Robert.
We will see you and Laila in Seoul, Korea!
