All of the monasteries, indeed most all sites in Greece, operate on 'winter hours'. In other words, they close earlier than usual. We made our way down the hill doubting we'd ever make it to the sixth and final monastery in time. To our great surprise, we arrived at the base of the Holy Monastery of Saint Nicholas Anapausas at exactly 2:50pm, ten minutes before closing. We bolted up the 200 or so steps and got to the heavy iron door at about 2:58pm. I made it up first and sure enough, it was closed tight. But as I waited for Jihye to catch up, it started to slowly creak open and an elderly woman appeared. Jihye caught up and the woman handed her the necessary skirt and made a crying motion telling us we should try to beg our way in. Jihye went for it but only got about half of her body across the threshold before the heavy door started to automatically close on her. She nearly got crushed as the rather jerkish attendant inside just let the door continue closing on her. So we shot this video at just that moment. Still, as Jihye got her left arm and shoulder inside, we are going to stand by the claim that we indeed 'visited' all six monasteries at Meteora. Mission accomplished.
