Tuk-tuk Scam

Things had gone so well, except for the insane prices we paid for a couple rice/nut snacks and two choco pies at a rest stop.  The bus ride was perfect, they even told us they would take us to our hotel/guesthouse.  When we told them where we were staying, they started over acting and saying it was 8 km outside of town and that none of the tuk-tuk drivers wanted to go that far.  What we expected to be free, and what I had read should cost about $3 from the city center, was quickly climbing to $4, then $6 dollars.  We should have just walked away then and taken a tuk-tuk on the street, but they managed to put enough doubt in my head that our guesthouse was actually further away than it really is.  Paid 24,000 Riel for a trip that should probably have cost about 12,000.  It is only $3, but still…the guy even had the balls to ask for a tip and check our plans for the next few days and said he would come pick us up for the Angkor Wat tour.  I just hope he is actually waiting out there at 6 am while we are already on our way to the temples with our own driver at 5 am.
