Welcoming Cretan Lunch

Our host invited us up the first afternoon to have some homemade Cretan food.  Special pastas that most Cretans don't even have these days, a vegetarian dish cooked to perfection seasoned with one of the many herbs that grow only on the island of Crete.  (no meat as the mother is an observant Greek Orthodox Christian and they give up meat for about 12 days around Christmas)  All washed down with homemade wine, a potent mix of a 19 year old batch with a 5 year old batch, then aged two more years in Jack Daniels barrels.  Hard to describe the flavor, but it is unlike anything we have ever had, think excellent red wine with obvious hints of brandy/whiskey/scotch/rum…it's all in there.  All followed up with sweet Greek desserts and vanilla ice cream.  Round 2 complete...
