(actually, the Hungarian kings granted the residents of Sibiu particularly liberal rights, known as 'Staple Rights', meaning they were able to keep more items, mostly perishable foods. They stored these 'staple foods' in their attics, meaning that over time the roofs in Sibiu became taller than average, and these windows were actually ventilation so things did not spoil.)
