As mentioned, Ban's Palace is on the opposite side of this square, the current residence of the Croatian President. After our hike up the hill, we bought a cold beverage and were enjoying it on the steps of the Church of St. Mark when security started moving around. Then the standard black SUV pulled around and all attention was focused on a large gate leading out of the Presidential palace. Suddenly the gates swung open revealing a black sedan, all tinted windows, that pulled out and sped away with security in tow. I'm going to call it and say we had a beer with the President of Croatia. Close enough for us anyways.
