Sharjah Government Building

It seems many of the important structures resemble, to a greater or lesser degree, a house of worship, in this case a mosque.  It makes me wonder if this is part of a conscious blending of the two, religion and government.  In the United States we have much clearer separation of church and state, and it would be rather shocking to see, for example, a state capitol built to resemble a Christian church or a Catholic cathedral.  Not to say there aren't plenty of state and local governments that would love to.
