Orthodox Cathedral and Monument to those Shot

As I understand, when the revolution was underway in this very square in 1989, once the shooting began, many protestors ran to the Cathedral entrance to find safety away from the gunfire.  Unfortunately the doors were locked and many of them were shot and killed on the steps to the Cathedral.  Across the street is now located a monument memorializing those that were killed at that time.
