Destroyed/Rebuilt Warsaw

As I have mentioned, Warsaw was once nothing but rubble.  After the Warsaw uprising began on August 1st, 1944 and was finally put down by the Nazi forces about 63 days later, Hitler exacted his revenge by razing the entire city.  He had plans drawn up to leave absolutely nothing and to rebuild on the site where Warsaw had once stood an oasis for up to 100,000 of some of the most elite among them.
Our neighborhood was no exception and fortunately our host provided us with a superb book chronicling the history, pre-, post-, and present conditions of many of the structures of the New Town area where we stayed.  Just incredible to see what was, what became of it, and how it has been painstakingly and at such a great cost rebuilt in splendid form.  Please watch this video for a decent overview and look carefully at the photos/videos in the next few posts to get the smallest idea of what happened to Warsaw towards the end of WWII.
