Hejnal Mariacki (Legend of the Trumpeter)

Some photos of St. Mary's Church and a video of the legendary trumpet call of Hejnal Mariacki that is performed every hour of every day from the taller of the two towers.  Legend has it that a trumpeter called from this exact place to warn of a Mongol invasion in 1241, the locals began to close the gates, but the trumpeter was struck in the throat by an arrow at the exact moment and his trumpet call ended prematurely.  Now, immediately after the bell tolls for the new hour, a local fireman caretaker opens the windows of the tower and begins to sound the call...only to stop suddenly mid-note in honor of the legendary trumpeter.  Supposedly they even play the trumpet call on Polish radio stations every day at noon.
