Just off to the side of Arbat, on a quiet tree-lined street, within a stone's throw of the Pushkin statue, is the US Embassy, home of the current US ambassador to Russia. Behind a tall metal fence, hidden by trees, and under constant guard and security presence, one can spy Old Glory waving proudly in Moscow, Russia. On the same street could be found several other nations' embassies as well.
Interestingly, as we were about the only two people on the street at that moment in time, the two security guards took a clear interest in the clearly non-Russian with a camera scouting out the embassy. I was also carrying a camera, and as soon as I brought it up to eye level to snap a photo, both security guards turned their backs to me, with one 'hiding' behind the other. If you look closely at the photograph, you can see the second shadow of the 'hidden' guard. I assume they are either severely camera shy or it is standing policy to avoid having your photograph taken standing guard for the Americans. Either way...gotcha!
